The art of selling creative work internationally

Lisa Dalla Rosa is a South Australian based artist. Her paintings, with their intense colours and unusual textures, interpret the Australian landscape and environment and have been exhibited in galleries around Australia. But unlike most Australian artists, Lisa Dalla Rosa has also captured an international audience ranging from private to commercial buyers.

Her unique contemporary style of painting suits private collectors and corporate offices, spaces, hotel foyers and boardrooms. Her glass wall art will be found in large commercial buildings in the Middle East, while her paper and canvas pieces are featured in galleries in Dubai, Toronto and New York.

The artist uses the green and gold kangaroo symbol to promote the fact that her art is from Australia. The logo is used on both literature and on tickets hanging from the artwork and usually gives a positive response from commercial buyers.

“The logo is very recognisable as a symbol for Australia and when buyers see it, they connect it with quality. Australia is seen as a producer of quality goods, so to market my work as Australian with a trustworthy mark gives me a very clear advantage over competitors from other countries,” says Lisa.

Lisa spends a considerable time travelling to key markets to ensure her work is at the forefront among architects, designers and buyers.

“Commercial buyers for large building complexes in places such as the Middle East need to be constantly reminded that my artwork exists. Being able to promote my work as Australian made gives me a very different product offering from my competitors. I am a one woman show – I am the artist, the marketer, the administration manager. I have to be effective in everything I do.”

While the logo is most commonly used on mass manufactured, processed or grown goods, it is clearly also effective as a selling point for unique works of art.

“People have such a positive view of Australia – they associate it with quality, and being able to transfer the unique view of Australia to any product is a huge advantage.”
