Australian Made for 150 years and still going

There are not many companies that can herald the fact that they have been Australian Made for 150 years, but 2007 is a monumental year in the history of Cookiron.

The Cookiron family business was established in 1857 with its original workshop in Melbourne.

“We are very proud to supply Australian made products and Cookiron prides itself on the fact we export a product to Japan with ‘Australian Made’ tags on each one,” said Mr. Cook.

Being Australian is important to the Cookiron business, with the company being a licensee for many years.

The company, which is enjoying continued success in the international market, manufactures various products which carry the Australian Made logo. These include garden features, gates and fencing, handmade wrought iron products, interior and exterior furniture, and sculptures.

Cookiron has had a strong presence over the years in various trade fairs, most recently including Furnitex, gift fairs, homeshows, and the Trade Landscape Show.

“Cookiron is currently in preparation for another trade fair in Sydney, probably the biggest in the country where our products will be against 99 per cent of imported product. But ours will be proudly displaying that little tag that says it all - ‘Australian Made’,” said Mr. Cook.

Alan Cook believes strongly in the Australian Made logo as a competitive advantage.

“Our wholesalers are able to have a product that is locally made, which can be in direct competition against a cheaper and inferior imported item."

"With the green and yellow tags on our products it gives their buyers the opportunity to choose Australian Made - which supports an Australian business with Australian employees - and the consumer knows that they are buying a quality product,” said Alan Cook.
