Raw, gluten-free, sugar-free rum balls

If you're looking for a healthy alternative to the sweet treats you crave, try this raw, gluten-free, sugar-free rum ball recipe, with optional styvia and rum for those feeling like that little bit extra. A personal recipe from Australian Made's Media and Communications Officer, this is a morning tea favourite.

 

Preparation time

 

1 hour (15 minutes preparation, 15 minutes cooling, 30 minutes creating)

Ingredients

 

1 cup Watsonia butter 

1 cup milk 

2 cups dates, finely chopped

2 1/2 cups almond meal

1 cup cocoa

Optional:

3/4 cups styvia-based natural sweetener 

1 tbsp rum

To decorate

 

2 cups desicated coconut

30 mini cupcake foils

 

Method

 

  • Place milk and butter (along with sugar if desired) into a saucepan and melt
  • Mix in dry ingredients (along with rum if desired)
  • Place the mixture in the freezer for 15 minutes to set
  • Roll into walnut-sized balls, roll in desicated coconut and place in mini cupcake foils.
